Course Assessment
Assessment – Theoretical
Students will be required to complete all assessment pieces of the course units. An overall pass mark of 60% for each of the units is required to complete the course. Students may be given opportunity for resubmission of an assessment piece to gain an overall pass grade for a unit at the discretion of the course coordinator and in accordance with institutional policies.
Both formative and summative assessment pieces will be used with validity and reliability of assessment pieces established through assessment moderation processes. After two supplementary assessments, termination on academic grounds.
Assessment & Clinical
The Papua New Guinea Nursing Council Competency Standards “describe the actions of nurses in providing safe and effective practice” (PNG Nursing Council, 2002) and it is these competencies that graduates from the Diploma of General Nursing are required to meet. Summative assessment of clinical practice competency to meet the expected level of skill development/mastery will be conducted across the six semesters of the course using an assessment tool that has been selected for its reliability, suitability and accuracy. Students failing a practical assessment will be given two opportunities to demonstrate mastery according to the regulations.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Applicants must be at least between 18 – 35years of age. They are expected to present their application to the college within the given time frame. Applicants who meet the entry requirements have received an acceptance offer of a place in school with endorsement from the Academic Board to the Nursing Program.
